Astronomy is a complicated science, and yet, history
suggests that it was the first science ever studied! Astronomy has guided people
of every race and nationality for thousands (if not millions) of years, and it continues to play a key role in scientific,
social, and religious areas of cultures throughout the world.
As you prepare for this course, there will be questions
that you have about astronomy that are, as yet, unanswered. There will also be
much that is familiar to you. Although it may seem redundant, you should begin
this study by filling out the KWHL chart at the front of your packet. This will
help you to guide your study, as well as give me some ideas for enriching your learning throughout the next few weeks.
Please give good effort to this. While it is self-paced, there will be class work as well as quizzes during this time. Portions of this study will also be on your first 9 weeks exam. Take
notes, pay careful attention to what you read, and complete all of the activities fully.
I hope that this overview of astronomy is both helpful, and intriguing for you!
The following study tracks should be studied in order.
Tracks with a ** by them are special interest and do not need to be completed in any particular order. (They do still need
to be completed however!)
